About Molaga Sailing

Molaga Sailing is owned by West Cork Local, Donal Barry. The trips offer a variety of exciting sailing and onshore experiences.

Skipper Donal Barry

The owner/skipper, Donal Barry started dingy sailing back in the 1980's around Baltimore and Sherkin Island with the Kennedy school and Le Glenans. Later moving on to the bigger boats with Soverign Sailing in Kinsale. Donal qualified for his skipper (yachtmaster) licence in Dun Laoghaire with Irish Offshore Sailing. He has sailed yachts in the Mediterranean, Ionian, and Adriatic seas as well as round Britain and Ireland. Donal has a deep passion for the sea and his native West Cork. He has a great knowledge of the local history and is well able to tell a story. He likes nothing better than to introduce you to this little piece of heaven that he calls home.

Our Trip

Our sailing trips last for 6 fun filled days. From Monday morning until Saturday afternoon. Guests can join the boat at our base in the historic port of Kinsale on Sunday evening around 18.00 where you will meet your skipper and fellow crew for a chat and a complementary drink. A chance to get to know your home for the next six days. Later we may go for an evening meal in a local restaurant or just eat on the boat. Monday morning after a hearty breakfast and a stroll around the town, you will have a safety brief from the skipper and help to get the boat ship shape for a wonderful adventure. We will head west in the direction of the Wild Atlantic Way. Our days are spent doing some exhilarating sailing where each person gets an opportunity to steer the boat, hoist the sails and tie some knots. Dropping anchor in a secluded bay for a picnic after a swim or walk on the beach. In the early evening we head for a fishing village to tie up for the night. Most people like to sample one of the many fine restaurants a few times during the week for our evening meal. During the week, the skipper can organise a trip to see a sport which is unique to Ireland such as Hurling, Gaelic Football or Road Bowling. Many towns have summer festivals so lots to do and see. Later, what better way to end the day than sink a few pints of black and listen to some lively music.

We will visit some offshore islands with their near deserted beaches. Some only inhabited by wildlife. This is nature at its best. One of the highlights of our trip is rounding the Fastnet rock. Made famous by the bi annual yacht race, she looks a commanding figure standing tall in the Atlantic. You are now at the most southerly point in Ireland. It does not get better than this. The trip ends on Saturday afternoon when we bid farewell to new found friends and promise to meet up some day and do it all again.
